    A humbling weekend

    Tuesday, September 11, 2007, 12:41 PM [General]

Well opening weekend at the Ohio Faire was wonderful.  I sold about 93 books opening weekend.  And some whom purchased the first of our duology came back and purchased the second part of our book.  And we sold many packages...the first and second books together.  We had a very productive weekend opening.

This past weekend however I took a turn which has humbled me.  Fellow vendors, I now share your pain when you all have a bad weekend.  Normally I still have a good day when others are not.  This has left me with a swollen ego at best.  But this past weekend I sold 18 books the whole weekend.  HOLY COW!

Well suffice it to say that I now share in other vendors weakness on a sore day.  But this is a new weekend approaching and I will see many more sales so all is not lost.  HUZZAH!

For more information about my book you can go to my website at: www.worldofshandahar.com

    Gen Con is Le' finish

    Tuesday, August 21, 2007, 02:04 PM [General]

THANK GOD for small miracles!  I know that may sound bad but HOLY COW, Gen Con is finished and now I can wined and get ready for the Ohio Ren Faire. We were driving to and from the Indy Convention Center to Cincinnati, and I had to load and unload about 500 books, :Sighs: I am beat!

Gen Con wasn't a total bust however we managed to sell 135 copies of our books, and managed to sell out of our 1st edition books! YEAH!!!  But we won't see any of our profits for about another 3 weeks or so, URGH! That is how Gen Con set us up, but the good thing was also that they took credit card offers for the purchases, so it balanced out in the long run...but Teddie needs the money like yesturday!

So now we are ready and geared up for the Ohio Faire, we have alot of books for this event, maybe a little over 450.  Half way through our 3rd book or our second duology in the Chronicles of Shandahar.

Now to top off all of that I need a second job and get my own place, yeah staying with family is cool, but I have out stayed my welcome there, that and I NEED MY OWN SPACE!  And now I end with a verse of a great song "Off I go into the wild blue wonder...."

"Honor is a gift that a man gives to himself..." - Rob Roy
Cardinal Virtues of the Knights: Love, Honor, Valor, and Humility...

Love: Knights strive to spread the cause of love in the world.
"You would know wouldn't you? You extend your hand to those who suffer, to those who know what it feels like, that means something..." - Trent Renzor
    1. We buy our loyalty with love and trust in one another.
"Love does not make the world go round; love is what makes the ride worthwhile..." - Jones
    2. The Knights of Silver are a family. We care about each other and depend on one another. If we lose faith in our brotherand sister knights or stop caring about their hopes, dreams, and emotions then we are no better than the evil we seek to combat.
"To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world..."- Unknown

    3. If one of our brothers or sisters falls from the paths of right, we seek to aid him or her in regaining his/her footing. Only as a last resort or in cases of extreme betrayal do we forsake him or her.
"Running away from love is the same as chasing after loneliness..." - BEB

    4. We fight as a last resort and never for the wrong reasons. We do not respond with violence to insults or accusations but instead with words or not at all. We let our actions speak for us.
"The less you open your heart to others the more your heart suffers..." - Deepak Chopra

    5. We do not fight when we have nothing to lose. We fight when we have something to gain. Violence is the haven of the weak and the cowards. It takes more strength NOT to fight than it does to lash out in anger.
"If you want love...you've got to give a little. If you want faith...you just believe a little. If you want peace...turn your cheek a little..." - Hagar
    6. We strive always for peace and not war. However, we also know that war is sometimes inevitable to defend those we love, which brings us to our next virtue...
"Believe in yourself, what you think, what you feel. Believe in yourself, in the good, the ideal. Believe that your dreams can someday become real, forever and always; believe." - Jessica Lucas

Valor: Knights are sworn to Valor in combat.
"'Fight on my men!' Sir Andrew said a little. 'I'm hurt not yet slain. I'll but lie down and bleed a while then rise to fight again!'" - RAM
    1. We strive to be as courageous as possible because we realize that the lives of our loved one, not to mentions our own, depend on not freezing up in fear when the time for battle comes.
"I get knocked down, but I get up again. You're never gonna keep me down..." - Chumbawamba
    2. Knights do not run from combat once it is joined needlessly. This means that if the combat can be won, then they stay and strive to win it. They do not leave their fellow knights to die without them, preferring to die by their side than to flee and live with the guilt of knowing they could have saved them.
"Have you ever had the odds stacked up so high you need strength most don't possess? Or has it ever come down to do or die, you've got to rise above the rest!" - Mighty, Mighty Bosstones
    3. Knights defend those who cannot defend themselves. This includes all those who are persecuted needlessly, innocents, the injured, and those unaccustomed to the ways of battle. (Even if it's just advising them of the ignore command.) This includes even those who might be considered beneath our station (Guests).
"Brave men die but once...cowards die a thousand deaths..." - William Wallace
    4. Knights do not do nothing when injustice is being done because they fear drawing attention to themselves or suffering from similiar injustices. They do not remain silent to avoid being taunted when they point out a wrong. This includes such things as GMs being needlessly tormented for doing their jobs, GMs abusing their powers (Which really does not happen very often), and someone in the Tavern suffering for expressing their honest opinions (Provided their opinions are not racist, derogatory/demeaning to others, or threatening in nature.)
"A Champion is someone who gets up even when he can't..." - Unknown.
"It's not the size of the man in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the man..." - Unknown

Honor: Knights act always with honor.
"Until you make peace with who you are, you'll never be content with what you have..." - Doris Martman
    1. Knights do not attack from behind. This one explains itself, I think.
"Honor is a gift that a man gives himself. Nobody can take it away from him unless he allows them to do so..." - Rob Roy
    2. Knights behave at all times in a way that sets an example to those around them and reflects in a positive manner on themselves and the Knights of Silver. This means obeying just laws and suggesting and working towards the changing of unjust laws in a civilized and productive way. This means no cursing in public areas, not yelling and disturbing those around them and not expressing themselves in any vulgar way. (Translation: Don't cause problems and behave well. Obey the rules of the chat room.)
"If you refuse to accept anything but the best, you'll get the best..." - JFA,
"A sign of maturity is having the foresight to realize the consequences of ones action and being willing to accept those consequences..." - Aaron Schneider
    3. Knights do not take shortcuts towards noble goals, if those shortcuts involve dishonor. This does not mean that they must be perfect, only that they must try to be. The ends do not justify the means.
"If you choose the quick and easy path...you will become an agent of evil..." - Yoda,
"Believe in yourself, work hard, and dreams will come true..." - Matthew Ryan Tomlinson
    4. No more than two Knights should attack a single foe at a time, provided that foe is of a mortal nature. (i.e. - Only two Knights could attack a single Dark Elf warrior at a time, but a dozen could team up on a demon from the Abyss.)
"We enjoy life through the help and society of others..." - Open motto of Phi Delta Theta
    5. Knights do not give insult to even their foes. (This one is a tough one. Trust me I know!) They are allowed to think what they wish but to resort to speaking insults, out loud to their foes, is to lower themselves to their foe's level.
"The great man shows his greatness by how he treats the little man..." - Ryan J. Skene
    6. Death before dishonor. (Do I really need to say more?)
"Est Sularis Oth Mithas - My Honor is my life..." - Knights of Solamnia.
"Defeat your enemy...do not become him..." - Mar-Vell

Humility: Knights are humble in all things.
"To touch is to heal, to hurt is to steal, if you want to kiss the sky better learn how to kneel!" - U2
    1. Knights accept the fact that in becoming Knights they vowed to commit themselves to a life of service. With service to others may come great rewards, however, they whould not be expected.
"I'm out of it for a little while and everyone's getting delusions of grandeur..." - Han Solo
    2. Knights should never become so absorbed in the fact that they are good and right that others can ALSO be good and right in their own way. Just because we are good does not mean we should persecute others who think and act in a different way. Intolerance is born of pride, and pride is not a virtue. This does not mean that we must tolerate the existence of blatantly evil creatures and people who would seek to do harm to others. But we must use caution in our judgement.
"The only true wisdom comes in knowing that you know nothing..." - Socrates
    3. Knights do not brag of their prowess to their fellow Knights or to others. Such behavior is unworthy of one of our stature. There is no nobility in being superior to others. Nobility is derived from being superior to that which you were yesterday.
    4. Knights do not become conceited. Conceit is a fatal flaw to both the person's character and to the person's health. (I am getting tired of explaining what I mean by these words. Figure this one out for yourselves! It is an important one.)
"A man is not measured by his ability to defeat his foes, but rather, by his ability to triumph over himself..." - Valas Silversabre

    Monday, July 23, 2007, 02:35 PM [General]
